Safety of the Crew Cab

Testing for safety and strength.
The purpose of the Scania strength test is to verify the ability of the structure to resist deformation after severe collision impact. The test cycle is in three parts:

• Static load on the cab’s roof of 15 tonnes.
• Front impact with a pendulum weight of 1.5 tonnes, dropped from a height of 3 metres directly onto the A-post.
• Rear impact with a pendulum weight of 1.5 tonnes dropped from a height of 3 metres directly onto the rear panel.

Following the complete test-cycle, there must be adequate survival space remaining within the cab for the driver and passengers. Furthermore, the doors of the cab must not burst open. Finally, the cab structure should remain fixed at all mounting points with the chassis.

The Scania Crew Cab makes these appliances very safe for the 8 Firefighters on board.
